Learning Activity 3.5, Task 1: Where do I live?
I live in Cornwall Ontario, and I have a unique demographic profile. Today, I will be going over a demographic explanation of where I live.
Firstly, we'll look at the age, sex, and ethnicity of those living in Cornwall. As a note, our population reached 50, 000 last month.
This is our population distribution in terms of age:

We can see that most of the population is 65+ years old. We further analyze the distribution of my population in terms of ethnicity:
We can begin analyzing how Cornwall has changed over the years. Firstly, there have been more immigration flows from 2016 to 2024, and we can only expect the immigration population by now to have exceeded 7%. Also, I notice a pattern of a lot of young people moving in, which could mean a boost for the population under 65 as opposed to 65+.
Some unique challenges that our demographics present could be our aging population, ethnic diversity, and gender imbalance. Since those in Cornwall are mainly 65 and over, we may face challenges related to healthcare, senior services, or/and aging infrastructure. The need for easily accessible healthcare facilities, affordable housing options for seniors, and programs will likely increase as the population continues to grow older. Our ethnic diversity, if immigration only keep increasing, could mean that there may be significant language and cultural barriers which may require efforts such as special programmes to overcome. The gender imbalance, which seems to not have evened out, may pose another challenge in different employment opportunities, wage gaps, and different resources for both genders.
To overcome these challenges, my community has created many significant senior programmes and special PSW healthcare services, many different celebrations (such as our annual art celebration) to bring the different ethnicities in our community together, and also more options for financially struggling citizens.
